TSC to Promote Experienced C4 Deputies to Headteacher Roles.
Heads of Institutions (HOI) nationwide will be appointed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to seasoned deputy headteachers and principals. The substantial number of openings brought about by a surge of teacher retirements is what motivated this choice.
The TSC has directed County Directors to gather information on deputy headteachers who have worked for at least eight years in order to fill these vacancies. This information, provided in the form of an Excel template, will make it easier to find applicants who are qualified for promotion.
A significant portion of headteachers were among the roughly 400,000 teachers who retired in June, underscoring the significance of this undertaking. In addition, 2,400 headteachers retired in December 2023, which meant that many positions remained empty. As a result, there is an urgent need for fresh leadership in schools due to the increase in retirements.
Promotions Scheduled for 2024–2025
In the 2024–2025 fiscal year, the TSC expects to promote 12,000 teachers in response to the increasing demand for new leaders. Three thousand of these will be assigned to senior schools, while nine thousand will be filled in primary schools. With the recent retirements, our project seeks to guarantee that schools continue to have good leadership.
- Primary Schools: 9,000 positions
- Secondary Schools: 3,000 positions
KNUT and TSC will discuss the possibility of a teacher strike before the third term.
Primary school Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs) are responsible for giving more information about C4 deputy headteachers. at order to cover leadership vacancies at schools until permanent appointments are made, this information is crucial.
Where there are openings, deputies will be allocated to schools in sub-counties.
35,505 promotion opportunities were announced by the TSC in September of last year. Of them, 1,049 positions were for primary deputies who were moving up from job category C4 to headteacher posts (C5) in normal schools. Furthermore, the TSC appointed 30 deputies to headteacher positions in special elementary schools.
Recent Accomplishments and Promotions
Dr. Nancy Macharia, CEO of TSC, announced last month that 36,504 teachers received promotions in the fiscal year 2023–2024. With this promotion, there have been 71,212 teachers promoted in total over the previous five years.
Dr. Macharia emphasized the commitment of the government to promoting teachers, pointing out that Ksh 1 billion has been set up for additional promotions in the 2024–2025 fiscal year.
Recent Promotions Include:
- 541 deputy principals promoted from job group D2 to D3 as principals
The TSC’s proactive steps to address leadership vacancies in schools reflect a strong commitment to maintaining educational standards. Therefore, by advancing qualified deputy headteachers and principals, the Commission aims to ensure a smooth transition and continued success in schools nationwide.
