TSC sets guidelines for recruitment of secondary school teachers.
Guidelines for hiring teachers who will be considered for the recently posted post-primary institution vacancies have been released by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Days before, the Commission had posted an advertisement for 46,000 positions this week, of which 6,000 would be assigned to primary schools, 39,550 to junior schools, and 450 to secondary schools.
It will be necessary for candidates to apply online at www.teachersonline.go.ke for the county in which a vacancy has been announced to the Secretary of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
According to TSC, in order to choose eligible candidates, Regional, County, and Sub-County Directors must first carry out a selection process. As required by the Public Officer Ethics Act and the TSC Code of Conduct and Ethics, the selection panel shall be held to the highest standards of accountability and openness (CoCE, 2015).
Before the selection process begins, the Regional Directors shall induct the County Directors under their respective spheres of authority. The County Directors shall then be obliged to induct members of the Selection Panels on the pertinent sections of the Act and the Code of Regulations for Teachers (CORT, 2015).
Venues for the selection process must be accessible to candidates with disabilities, and Sub-County Directors must make sure of this in coordination with their respective County Directors. According to TSC Act, 2012 Section 23(1), all applicants must be registered instructors.
Certified copies of the certificate(s) of the national examination(s) for each attempt must be shown by applicants who retake the KCPE or KCSE exams (or their equivalents). The Sub-County Directors are required to certify copies of the certificates.
In the event that the exam is canceled, applicants must provide a certified copy of the KNEC printout from the school together with a letter from the Head of Institution attesting to the cancellation.
The TSC Sub-County Directors will meet with the Sub-County Selection Panel(s) after receiving the Applicants’ Lists from the County Director. The interview locations, dates, and times will subsequently be determined by the Selection Panel(s) and reported to TSC Headquarters for validation and publication.
At least seven days from the date of publication, all applicants will receive an invitation for the document verification and information via the TSC website.
