TSC Announces Recruitment Deadline for 46,000 Teachers; Apply Now.
It has been stated by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) that permanent and pensionable terms of service are being recruited for teachers.
The commission posted a job advertisement seeking suitable teachers to fill 46,000 positions.
According to TSC, there are 6,000 positions available for elementary schools, 39,550 for junior secondary schools, and 450 for secondary schools.
According to TSC, in order to be considered for employment, a candidate needed to be a citizen of Kenya and possess a minimum of a P1 certificate for primary schools and a minimum of an education diploma for junior and secondary schools.
The commission further stipulated that an applicant needed to be a Teachers Service Commission-registered instructor.
“Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Teacher Service Commission website, tsc.go.ke under ‘Careers’ or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke,” stated the TSC.
The deadline has been set at midnight on October 7, 2024.
In addition, TSC said that there is no cost associated with the recruitment process and cautioned candidates against con artists who could demand money from gullible people posing as recruiters.
Applications from people with disabilities (PWDs) were also welcomed by the commission.
This occurs around three months after 742 junior secondary school teachers were fired by TSC following a walkout calling for permanent employment, which sparked outrage.
The teachers had petitioned for better job terms because they were interns, but the TSC blamed “professional misconduct” and desertion of duty for the firings.
On May 22, 2024, the commission sent show reason letters to the instructors who were protesting and had left their jobs. The teachers were asked to respond to the letters within two weeks.
Although 7,357 show-cause letters were sent, TSC stated that only 742 teachers were ultimately fired since many of them had satisfactory responses.
According to TSC, of the 10,348 instructors who got show-cause letters, 9,606 were able to answer within the allotted two weeks. The contracts of the 742 teachers whose whereabouts were unknown and who failed to report to work were terminated and replaced.
Senator Samson Cherargei was among the critics who denounced the dismissals as vindictive and demanded that TSC reinstated the affected individuals immediately, threatening legislative censure if they did not comply.
