KUPPET asks TSC to make counseling services available to teachers who are despondent.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is being asked by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) to ensure that teachers have easy access to counseling services due to the growing concerns around mental health among teachers.
The Kericho branch’s executive secretary, Mary Rotich, declared that the startling rise in mental health problems calls for action.
Rotich argued that more work needed to be done, even if Aon Minet covers mental health, and he supported the construction of awareness programs.
Mental health problems are a worry these days. The speaker stated, “As a union, we want TSC to intervene so that instructors can simply cancel services.
Speaking in Kericho Town, she lamented the scarcity of mental health specialists, such as psychiatrists, and said that this had affected the availability of healthcare.
In her request for the nation’s Aon Minet-accredited institutions to be improved so that educators would have easy access to high-quality care, Rotich listed the signs and causes of depression.
Depression in educators has been connected, among other things, to gambling and family issues. If you see someone solitary, please approach them.
We also ask for further authority to be granted to Aon Minet-accredited facilities so that many teachers can access services more easily,” Rotich stated. The group also advocated for regular mental health exams and stated that people with mental illnesses needed assistance and care.
Over seven educators in the county have committed suicide since the year started, and several more are recuperating in various healthcare facilities as a result of the problem.
