Govt releases Ksh30B capitation funds to schools for 3rd term.
As schools are ready to reopen on August 26, the National Treasury has set aside Ksh29.7 billion for higher education,
Primarily for fundamental learning. Ksh1.6 billion of the Ksh21.8 billion awarded to the State Department of Basic Education is intended for Free Primary Education (FPE) during the third term.
Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) has been allotted Ksh14.1 billion, and Junior Secondary Education, likewise for the third term, has been awarded Ksh6.1 billion.
Schools that had been affected by capitation payment delays—some of which forced them to take out loans in order to cover their operating costs—will find some relief from these developments.
Ksh7.9 billion has been given to the State Department of Higher Education and Research in the interim.
Additionally, Ksh5.1 billion has been given to the Universities Fund Board in order to support students, and Ksh2.8 billion has been given to the Education Loans Board.
