Education PS announces dates for KCSE 2024 exam results release.
As the national examinations council scrambles to complete the score and grade analysis, the Education Ministry has calmed concerns over delays in the 2024 Form Four test results release.
Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary for basic education, stated on Thursday that the results of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations will be released on schedule, maintaining that the dates will be the same as in 2023.
According to Dr. Kipsang, the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has been announcing results in January for the past two years.
Dr. Kipsang refuted allegations that the results were postponed to enable manipulation in favor of massive national schools while speaking in Mombasa during an education tour ahead of the start of classes again next week.
We are announcing findings at the start of the year for the second year in a row since, as you may know, we all claim to be in a rush to reveal results when we do so in December. However, we choose to take our time to make sure that everything is done and that there are no problems in order to guarantee a seamless publication of the results,” Dr. Kipsang stated.
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) was absent this year, though, so it’s as if something is missing. However, during the following ten days, we will be announcing the results.
The largest-ever number of candidates for the KCSE was submitted last year; marking for the exam was completed over a month ago.
The enormous number of candidates may have contributed to the length of time needed to analyze the results, according to a source at Knec.
Additionally, Knec is analyzing the findings of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), which sixth-grade students took before starting junior high school in January 2025.
In response to several examiners’ worries about test misconduct, the Nation has also confirmed that Knec is taking its time to thoroughly evaluate the KCSE results.
Despite calling the malpractices “few,” Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba stressed that nothing is being left up to chance to uncover cheaters, according to the source.
Dr. Kipsang did, however, reassure students, instructors, and parents that the results’ integrity was unaltered.
It was the year that we implemented procedures and frameworks to guarantee the seamless administration of tests, provide our examiners with sufficient time to review the exams, and guarantee that every child receives the outcomes for which they have been working for the past four years. “I can assure you that everything has proceeded smoothly,” the PS continued.
Results have been made public a few days after marking concludes since 2016 when then-Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i implemented examination changes. The manipulation of results was attributed to earlier lengthy delays.
The Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (Kessha) and other education stakeholders requested the Kenya National Examination Council to guarantee test marking equity.
Reports of suspected cheating and other malpractices during the 2024 KCSE exam, such as collusion, possession of unauthorized materials, and possession of cell phones, were received, according to the Ministry of Education.
Under the direction of National Chairman Willy Kuria, representatives of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (Kessha) stated, “We want impartial examination procedures and minimize outside influence.”
The principals also suggested that school rankings be discontinued, which would remove any incentive to falsify findings.
The school administrators demanded administrative and policy changes, specifically that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) cease performance-based promotions and principal’s letters resulting from subpar performance.
“Modify the requirements for promotions and concentrate on the overall growth of students.” Put a stop to political meddling and protect exams from political goals,” Mr. Kuria continued.
Promotions for instructors are based on good performance, which encourages them to commit malpractice in order to get a mean score that would result in promotions, according to TSC standards.
